The postponement of the Zuccotti Park cleanup in Lower Manhattan appears to have been a short-lived victory for the Occupy Wall Street protesters, with police arresting 14 people this morning.
The announcement of the cleanup’s delay—which some protesters believed to be a pretext to evict them—was followed by a march of around 500 people to the New York Stock Exchange. Police and protesters clashed after a man was reportedly run over by a police scooter.
Charges are pending against the 14 protesters arrested. NYPD deputy commissioner Paul Browne told MSNBC that the arrested protesters had obstructed traffic by either sitting or standing in the street.
A few protesters made it to the Stock Exchange, MSNBC reports. But although the arrests effectively shut down the march, the protesters appear to remain undeterred and returned to Zuccotti Park for further occupation after the mayhem subsided.
A number of protesters were also arrested in Denver, after authorities began removing tents overnight.
