How to Build a Niche Blog Aug 03, 2010 // Jorja McKinneyNo Comments »Niche bloggers hold the secret to success on the internet. They have captured a small corner of the internet and exploited it. So how do you build your own niche blog and tap into some of that internet wealth? The process is easier than it appears. It’s easy in the sense that you don’t need a doctorate to understand how to do it. This does not mean that building a successful niche blog won’t take a lot of work.
Preparation:
Before you even start to look for a program to build your blog, you will need to make a list of the potential topics you would like to write about. After creating this initial list, you should whittle it down to a few related keywords. You can do this by performing some keyword research. There are a lot of programs available that you can pay for, but just use the Google Adwords keyword tool. Use this tool to check the keywords related to your topic. Look for a keyword with a lot of traffic and low competition. This will make it easier to break into the search engine rankings.
Building:
When you first build your blog, you should stuff it with content. Blogs are generally updated once per week. In order to build up a content base, you will have to post every day for a while. Building a backlog of content will give the first visitors to your blog a reason to subscribe. After a while, you can reduce your posting frequency.
Content and Keywords:
When creating your initial content, you will need to really focus on keyword selection. This can be done the same way you approached your niche topic, through the Google Adwords keyword tool. You should scatter keywords liberally throughout your content . Be careful not to participate in keyword stuffing though. Google looks upon this practice as black hat search engine optimization.
Promotion:
Once you have built your blog and created a decent amount of content, you will need to get the word out. The most effective way to drive targeted traffic to a niche blog is to write related articles and submit them to an article submission website. At the end of the article, and sometimes in the middle, you will be able to put one or two links back to related posts in your blog. It is good to link to the inner pages of your blog as well as the home page. This will help all of your posts get ranked more quickly.
Follow up:
Once the money starts rolling in, don’t become lax and stop posting content. This will only drive your loyal followers away. Make sure that you are contributing regularly and your content is evergreen. Your residual income from the blog will increase steadily over time.
The most important aspect of building a niche blog is writing about something you love. If you write what you love it will never get old. The trap that most failed bloggers fall into is that they cannot think of anything else to write, and give up. Writing about what you love will prevent this pitfall.
