W.House warns Congress not to play politics with debt
Jul 21, 2011 // Christian Reynolds
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama
continues to oppose a short-term extension of the country’s
debt ceiling, which he feels could lead to the U.S. credit
rating being downgraded, the White House said Saturday.
“Congress should refrain from playing reckless political
games with our economy. Instead, it should be responsible and
do its job, avoiding default and cutting the deficit,” White
House press secretary Jay Carney said in a statement following
a meeting between Obama and congressional leaders.
