McDonald’s to create 60 jobs Jan 25, 2012 // Christian ReynoldsNo Comments »Sixty new jobs are set to be created in McDonald’s restaurants across Greater Manchester this year, the fast food chain said today.
The group is creating at least 2,500 new jobs across the UK in 2012, taking McDonald’s total UK workforce to 90,000.
More than half of the new jobs are expected to go to those under the age of 25 as the group aims to tackle rising unemployment figures amongst young people.
The new jobs build on the 13,500 McDonald’s has created over the last three years as a result of continued growth driven by restaurant investment, extended opening hours, constant menu improvements and new menu options the firm said.
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said, “It is fantastic news that McDonald’s is creating 2,500 new jobs in the UK – and that over half of these posts will go to young people.
“McDonald’s has an excellent reputation for developing its staff with training and apprenticeship programmes.
“This invests valuable time and resources to help young people, with little or no experience in the world of work, to develop their skills and confidence.

Gillette announces international Olympic team of its own Jan 09, 2012 // Christian ReynoldsSwiss tennis ace Roger Federer and U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte are among 24 male athletes that will represent Gillette at this years Olympic Games in London.
The Gillette team is a first for the Boston grooming brand and the first initiative launched under parent company Procter s 10-year partnership with the Olympic Movement.
The athletes, who represent 18 countries, will take part in activities designed to inspire and encourage future generations to achieve greatness through great starts in athletics and in life, according to Gillette.
Other team members include badminton player Lin Dan of China, basketball player Emmanuel Ginobili of Argentina and cyclist Sir Chris Hoy of Great Britain.

“You save money,” she said, adding that the real challenge is greening cities in poorer nations, like Bangladesh, where people live in “almost impossible conditions.”
Robinson was one of four leading climate change thinkers discussing how viable it is to invest in sustainable cities in a debate hosted by CNN’s Robyn Curnow during the 2011 U.N. Conference on Climate Change last week in Durban.
Joining Robinson on the panel were Pan Jiahua, advisor to the Chinese delegation at the conference, Elliot Diringer, former adviser to the Bill Clinton’s U.S.

Co-operative Group boss is band leader Dec 05, 2011 // Christian ReynoldsThe boss of the Co-operative Group is drumming up support for charity by appearing in a band trying to raise money for Mencap.
Chief executive Peter Marks is part of an eight-piece group of Co-op employees which has recorded a version of Take That’s Greatest Day, with proceeds going to Mencap and its sister charity ENABLE Scotland.
Mr Marks plays drums on the song, joining staff from the food, finance and head office legal departments in the band, called Angel Square – the address of the group’s head office in Manchester.
The band has been rehearsing at a studio in Manchester and will play at a sell-out gig in the city tonight.
Mr Marks said: “I was once quoted as saying that if I wasn’t at the Co-operative, the only other job I would be interested in would be drumming for the Rolling Stones.
“I knew that the idea of a band formed entirely from Co-operative colleagues had the potential to support our charity of the year.
