* A report out of Washington DC is Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is mulling stepping down from his post by years end. The report indicates that Geithner will not announce his decision until after the tumultuous debt v. spending debate has been settled. When asked Geithner stated he would remain with the Treasury in his position for the foreseeable future.
* As the reports circulate Geithner indicates he is focused on the job at hand. Ive only worked in public service. I live for this work. Its the only thing Ive ever done, I believe in it, Geithner said. We have a lot of challenges as a country, and Im going to be doing it for the foreseeable future.
* If Geithner indeed leaves the post this could be another huge blow to the Obama administration leaving the economic team weak. Geithner has had his share of challenges and criticisms however he has emerged as a leader steady and consistent in the most difficult of situations.
