6 July 2011
President Obama is set to meet with Congressional leaders today after rejecting proposals on a short term deal to raise the countries debt limit. Obama is digging in his heals and pressing congress to reach a broad agreement within the next two weeks to avoid default. the president has invited Democratic and Republican leaders to the White House to evaluate the situation and negotiations that would enable the government to avoid default.
Previously the United States leaders have failed to come to any agreement in eradicating the potential crisis, as both sides have accused the other for the failure to agree. It has been reported that both sides have agreed to billions in spending cuts but are deadlocked over how to handle taxes. The Democrats look to raise taxes on the rich and the Republicans refuse to adopt any tax increases on the grounds it will be detrimental to the job market.
